How I am using ChatGPT when reading about finance or anything really
So lately I’ve been using ChatGPT to help me while reading articles I find on finance. Specifically breaking down articles between fact and opinion. For example I pasted one of my most recent articles on bond duration and value stocks. I asked ChatGPT to decipher my post between fact vs opinion. Here is what it output:
Fact:
The running joke that bond analysts understand the stock market better than equity analysts.
The discussion of increasing interest rates has created a debate between growth and value stocks.
Money has flowed from growth to value stocks in the year-to-date returns of various stocks and ETFs (e.g. VUG, VBK, VTV, VBR).
The reason for the outperformance of value stocks over growth stocks is explained by the bond statistic "duration".
Duration measures the change in a bond's price for a given change in interest rates.
There are three relationships between bond value, interest rates, coupon payments: inverse relationship between bond price and interest rates, positive relationship between bond price and future coupon payments, and a relationship between bond price and the timing of coupon payments.
The same bond math applies to stocks, with value stocks behaving similarly to low-duration bonds, while growth stocks behave similarly to high-duration bonds.
Opinion:
The author loves when investors discuss bond math.
The author has a large weighting towards value-oriented ETFs (AVUV, AVDV, AVES, QVAL).
The author believes that if markets continue to surprise investors with increasing interest rates, value stocks will outperform growth stocks.
I find it does a great job breaking down what is opinion or not. This can be so helpful in understanding an author’s point of view. Where they may be biased or not in their perspective of the world. Super excited to utilize this tool as a second pair of eyes as I learn about the world.
Happy Investing!
